  • A Byzantine motif inspired from the frescoes of St. Andrew's church, in Patras, Greece. This motif motivated by early Cappadocian cave frescoes. The simple pattern consists of squares and lines, painted in a seemingly hasty fashion. This is the art style of many cave churches. The most elaborate churches with this geometric art style are St. Barbara Church (Göreme Open Air Museum) and Ayvalı Monastery (near Göreme). Its geometric shape resembles a cluster of stars, thus the name, and dramatically increases their light output before fading away.
