ELEMENTARY SCHOOL VISITS

"THE COMBINED EXPERIENCE"

ELEMENTARY EDUCATION

BASIC INFORMATION

Nowadays, an interdisciplinary and collaborative approach to knowledge acquisition that goes beyond accepted epistemological and ontological traditions is required. This pedagogy, which recognizes the learner as an integrated entity (body, mind, and spirit), is thought to be critical for approaching Orthodox monumental art. It is a pedagogy of frictions, experiences, and sentiments in the context of museums that challenges traditional knowledge routines and promotes genuine encounters. The Karoussos Archives school programme, "The Combined Experience" for children aged 8 to 13 incorporates five cutting-edge approaches based on mixed reality, or the blending of real, virtual, and augmented reality:

WALK INTO THE PAINTINGS

The Augmented Reality Sessions

The painting's scenery, colors, and figures expand into the space as you walk into the painting layers with your device, enhancing immersive storytelling experiences. Augmented reality creates a one-of-a-kind environment in which the lines between the physical and the imaginary are blurred, allowing the mind to absorb the essence of the frescoes.

Virtual Reality

The experience of seeing the frescoes, that are actually up to 43 meters high, surround you in 360 degrees is incredible. As if you were flying up to the church's dome, you can clearly see the entire fresco, exploring the shapes, the colours, and even the paint gestures of the artist.

THE BLACKBOARDS

The Augmented Reality Sessions

In the form of point clouds, the blackboards depict the main parts of the churches painted by Karoussos. They include triggers that transport the viewer into the actual spaces of the churches. In front of the participant, the major fresco ensembles of the churches appear. The visuals are accompanied by audio content, which includes the artist's own description of his work.

SECONDARY SCHOOL VISITS

"OUT OF THE BOX"

BASIC INFORMATION

The traditional image of a museum as static and dusty is long gone. Contemporary museums promote interactive exhibits, hands-on learning experiences, and technological 'openness.'
Karoussos Archives offers extensive access to the exhibits and pairs them with conceptual collections that are aligned with historically significant events, socio-cultural interests, and ideological and philosophical debates.
Students can analyze and evaluate a narrative or perspective through multiple contextual lenses by accessing the archive's content and resources. At Karoussos Archives, technology is used to recontextualize Byzantine cultural heritage while ensuring its long-term viability in our digital age.

PAINT LIKE A PROMPTER

Painting Session with AI

Create an art prompt by generating artwork using a storyboard as input for digitally generated images.

This is a collaborative session that sparks creativity and empowers decision-making. It is also a great opportunity to better understand Byzantine literature, particularly Ekphrasis. The prompts for the session are taken from a Byzantine text written by the poet John the Geometres, who describes his ideal garden in Constantinople.

"MEC"
MODEL OF ECUMENICAL COUNCIL

BASIC INFORMATION

In 787 ac, the Seventh Ecumenical Council (also known as the Second Council of Nicaea) restored the images while condemning iconoclasm. What is considered ecumenical has shifted dramatically after a millennium plus 236 years. The advancement of technology has expanded the size of the planet (ecumene: oikoumén) to include the metaverse. Cyberspace has outpaced our spatiotemporal awareness, while our very human nature has become a transformable entity.
As a result of this vast field reflecting our mutable images in massive digital containers, the never-ending issue of Iconoclasm has reappeared, albeit as a much more complex issue that requires urgent re-consideration and re-evaluation.

MEC is a pilot educational conference modeled after an Ecumenical Council. Participants assume the role of a body representative, conduct research on current international issues, subject to theological, cultural, and social practices, form alliances, and propose solutions in the form of "resolutions."The fundamental idea of the Model of the Ecumenical Council is the right to our culture in the digital era.
