"THE COMBINED EXPERIENCE"
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL VISITS
BASIC INFORMATION
Nowadays, an interdisciplinary and collaborative approach to knowledge acquisition that goes beyond accepted epistemological and ontological traditions is required. This pedagogy, which recognizes the learner as an integrated entity (body, mind, and spirit), is thought to be critical for approaching Orthodox monumental art. It is a pedagogy of frictions, experiences, and sentiments in the context of museums that challenges traditional knowledge routines and promotes genuine encounters. The Karoussos Archives school programme, "The Combined Experience" for children aged 8 to 13 incorporates five cutting-edge approaches based on mixed reality, or the blending of real, virtual, and augmented reality:

"OUT OF THE BOX"
BASIC INFORMATION
The traditional image of a museum as static and dusty is long gone. Contemporary museums promote interactive exhibits, hands-on learning experiences, and technological 'openness.'
Karoussos Archives offers extensive access to the exhibits and pairs them with conceptual collections that are aligned with historically significant events, socio-cultural interests, and ideological and philosophical debates.
Students can analyze and evaluate a narrative or perspective through multiple contextual lenses by accessing the archive's content and resources. At Karoussos Archives, technology is used to recontextualize Byzantine cultural heritage while ensuring its long-term viability in our digital age.

"#BYZAVERSE"
HIGHER EDUCATION
BASIC INFORMATION
The Karoussos Host Program supports students and researchers in developing new approaches to Byzantine art and culture that contribute to the understanding and preservation of cultural heritage through emerging technologies. Participants have the opportunity to spend significant time in one of the world’s leading archives during their stay, where they will join an international community of academics and researchers. Students/researchers reside at the Karoussos Center in Verga, Peloponnese, a fully renovated 18th-century Maniot residence that houses the Karoussos Archives, which, through virtual, hybrid, and augmented reality environments, creates a pioneering path to cultural heritage on a global scale.

IMMERSIVE DOME
BASIC INFORMATION
There is without a doubt no better place to immerse yourself in the world of Byzantine monumental art and history than our immersive dome.
The Karousos Archives' mobile, inflatable dome simulates the major architectural elements of a church, such as the dome and the sanctuary. The frescoes inside this immersive space are mapped in such a way that they rivet any visitor.
The frescoes have been transferred to the virtual environment using high-tech media and digitally processed images, producing transcendental experiences as in the physical church while also enhancing the audience's multi-sensory experience.
The dome can be installed in any institution (school, university, college, museum, etc.) as long as it meets certain requirements in terms of space, weather (if outdoors), and security.
